About the Author - Abigail Andrews

Hi, I am Abi. I am a disillusioned rat scuttling round the rat race with all you other rats. Getting out of bed at 6am every morning, sitting on the bus with all the other miserable rats, heading to a job I don't really like and spending every week day counting the days until the weekend...

Think about this for just one minute: your life revolves around getting dressed in your home in the clothes that you buy for work, driving to work in a car you are still paying for, to get to a job you need and most likely hate, so you can pay for the clothes, pay for the car, and pay for your home, which you leave empty all day so you can afford to live in it! As Homer Simpson would say... Doooooohh!

Whilst I enjoy the work I do and I earn a very decent salary, I still hate the fact that no matter how hard I work my income is capped, there is little incentive to try any harder. I hate that my employer tells me when I can have holidays and for how long! Imagine how different our lives could be if we had both the financial freedom and the time to take our holidays wherever we want, when we want and for as long as we want.

learn how to make moneylearn how to make moneyWhy do we do this? Why do we go to work everyday? Surely there has got to be other, easier, nicer, ways to make money? It can't be that hard? These are all the questions I began to ask myself around the end of 2006. My Husband Danny and I had already invested some of our "hard earned" money for our future, but these investments were for our retirement. We did not see them as a way to escape the daily grind of going to work everyday and becoming financially independent until the end of 2006. I bought Danny a book for Christmas called, Naked Trader, I also bought myself, Rich Dad Poor Dad at the same time, both highly recommended and inspirational reads. After reading these books we started to see the investments we had already made as a start to escape the rat race and becoming financially independent.
